+ Salifu Mohammed's FIRST solo show!

Salifu grew up in the village of Wa in the upper west region of northern Ghana, called Busa.  He has exhibited at galleries + museums in his native Ghana, and his work is in numerous permanent + private collections throughout Africa, Europe, and the United States.  Salifu recently moved to San Francisco, and this is his FIRST solo show in the US.  START SOMA is absolutely honored to showcase his large format oil paintings, which are simply mesmerizing...

PAINTED ROOMS 3.0

FRIDAY | APRIL 15

HOTEL DES ARTS

Last year, START SOMA launched an art gallery in the HOTEL DES ARTS - a boutique 51 room art hotel in the heart of San Francisco's Union Square.

Over the past months, some of the premier emerging artists in the world have been painting their own signature rooms. Floor to ceiling, and pretty much everything in between - with full autonomy to do whatever they wanted...

Last year, we showcased 16 PAINTED ROOMS.

On April 15, we unveil 16 more:

Bryan Dawson | Josh Feldman | Maria Gillespie | Doze Green | Maya Hayuk | Kenji Hirata | Matt Irving | MATZU

Jason Lee | Eric Orr | Chris Pastras | Punkadelik | MISK | Anthony Skirvin | Kelly Tunstall | Klutch + Vinyl Killers

kindly email john@STARTsoma.com to request an invitation to the opening...

space is VERY limited for this one!

and ALL the previously painted rooms will be open!

Brad K. Alder | Brian Barneclo | Tim Gaskin | Logan Hicks | Terrance Hughes | NEON | Kelly Ording | Jet Martinez

Jimmy Soat | Damon Soule | APEX | David Choe | David DeRosa | Sam Flores | Vulcan

one night only...

All the painted rooms are available at NO CHARGE for magazine photoshoots...

kindly contact info@STARTsoma.com for additional information

SCION EVENT RECAP

this past weekend, several START SOMA artists from PAINTED ROOMS were hired by Scion to paint some more rooms + walls for a giant party at the Hangar One Vodka Distillery on the Alameda Naval Base.

and you read it here first...

...this PAINTED ROOMS thing is going to take off!

David DeRosa Commissions

make great gifts!

David DeRosa is a top-notch talent who had the first public exhibition of his paintings at START SOMA this past year.

His work resonated, and he has been the START SOMA artist in residence for the past nine months. He quit his day job and has been painting around the clock ever since...

Over the past months, David has completed portraits in his signature after image style for a whole host of decidedly interesting characters...

Perhaps someone you know would like one?

Or maybe one for YOU?

Interested in learning more?  Kindly contact info@STARTsoma.com to schedule a sitting.

* David DeRosa's paintings hang on the walls of Eminem, Mos Def, Nas, Nelly, Snoop Dogg, Danny Glover, Mix Master Mike (the Beastie Boys), Proof (D12), and Middleweight Champion of the World Bernard Hopkins. David has been hired by SUN and SCION for art projects, and he just finished a series of posters for an electro-pop band from Rome who took advantage of his 'free art for emerging musicians' program! We have had to re-schedule his first solo show half-a-dozen times because his work sells directly from the studio before it is even dry! And remember - you do NOT need to own a Bentley to afford a DeRosa commission - prices start at $500...

THIS JUST IN....

Conde Nast Traveler

the PAINTED ROOMS in the HOTEL DES ARTS were just featured in one of the world's premier travel magazines!

according to the blurb in this month's Condé Nast Traveler:

the most popular rooms at San Francisco's newly

renovated Hotel des Arts have graffiti-inspired murals

by artists such as Sam Flores, Apex, David Choe,

and Vulcan, one of New York City's early graffitists...

the magazine also included a GREAT photo of Sam Flores' painted room - so please check out page 44 of the March 2005 Condé Nast Traveler!
