NEXT THURSDAY!

SF FACES. The project began with a decidedly simple idea for an art show:

  • Shoot photos of the unique characters that make up San Francisco.
  • Photographed by the acclaimed Orange Photography team.

Photojournalism meets Fine Art.

Executed with highly technical panache AND a sense of humor.

The result is a collection of over fifty large-scale black and white portraits that will be formally unveiled at START SOMA next week (details below).

The opening promises to be pretty interesting, and we hope you can make it.

NEXT WEEK THURSDAY - september 25

and coming OCTOBER 2nd to START SOMA

one week after SF FACES...

CRAZYSEXYHOLLYWOOD
Crazy Sexy Hollywood

On October 2, Carlos Batts launches his latest book - CRAZYSEXYHOLLYWOOD at START SOMA.

START SOMA is VERY pleased to launch this book in conjunction with an art show featuring the work of some of Hollywood's top photographers:
  • Carlos Batts
  • Estevan Oriol
  • Rick Castro
  • Dave Naz
  • Patrick Hoelck
  • Steve Diet Goedde
  • For decades Hollywood has captured the world's imagination, drawing people from around the United States, and around the planet, to pursue the dream of big screen stardom. It is a city composed of dreamers and doers, creators and hangers-on . It is a city that gleams + glitters, and then rolls over to reveal a sleazy underbelly that is as essential to its cachet as anything else. Carlos Batts' latest book, CRAZYSEXYHOLLYWOOD, captures the electrical essence of the town we love to hate.

In conjunction with the release of his latest book, Carlos is pleased to present the exhibit CRAZYSEXYHOLLYWOOD. The show brings together six of Los Angeles' finest contemporary photographers in a collection curated by Carlos himself.

Patrick Hoelck, Estevan Oriol, Rick Castro, Dave Naz, Steve Diet Goedde and Carlos Batts present a total of fifty works that pay tribute to the looks, attitudes, glamour and grittiness that define Hollywood.

    CRAZYSEXYHOLLYWOOD

CRAZYSEXYHOLLYWOOD looks beyond the landmarks and celebrities, to the patchwork of souls, personas and styles that make Hollywood unique.

    THIS JUST IN...
the San Francisco Examiner's inimitable Bruce Bellingham had some nice things to say about SF FACES in his column:
    read the article!

and if you are looking for something fun to do tonight (september 18), there are actually TWO pretty nice events that are definitely worth checking out:

    • PLATFORM puts on some of the best art shows in the city, and tonight looks to be no exception. Heroes + Villains features a great line-up of local emerging artists, and is being held in our NEW favorite arts venue in San Francisco - mezzanine!

    • alternatively, you might want to check out a show produced by our friends at AudioFarm + the Avalon Ballroom. Metal Shop - the monday night house band at the Viper Room in Los Angeles is doing a series of thursday night shows in San Francisco, starting tonight. A little bit of Spinal Tap meets a little bit of 80's glam metal. DEFINITELY an interesting show.

can't decide? go to both! platform starts at 7 + metal shop starts at 10.

just make sure you come to SF FACES next Thursday!
