The TransAfrica Forum is committed to promoting US foreign policies in Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America that support: * human rights * democracy * sustainable economic development Over the course of our first year, START SOMA has hosted a number of fundraisers for some great non-profit organizations, and we are particularly proud to support Danny's TransAfrica Forum. This was probably our most auspicious fundraiser to date. In addition to some pretty amazing art and a decidedly eclectic crowd, we had 7 bands on two stages (27 performers in all!), and our corporate sponsors included Stella Artois + Bass Ale, Roy's Restaurant, Friendly Spirits, Remy Martin, Damrak, and Cointreau. Plus rappers ICE T and NELLY donated dozens and dozens of cases of their respective energy drinks. A big THANK YOU to everyone who supported this great cause - it was definitely an inspiring pre-launch of our new mission gallery! According to ART BUSINESS, START SOMA "sure throws a party; groovy space, music, spoken word, acapella, tasty food, plenty o' drink, sharp art, cutie-pies of all sexes, luminaries too prominent to mention, and an art auction to benefit the TransAfrica Forum..." With the launch of TEN this weekend, we are focusing EXCLUSIVELY on the art - which is absolutely stellar. We hope you can make the opening this weekend. Noon until 6 pm on Saturday + Sunday. Admission is FREE - simply email ten@STARTsoma.com to add your name to the guest list and let us know if you are coming by on Saturday or Sunday. If you have already responded, you are all set! We look forward to seeing you this weekend! And we have a bunch of future shows planned that ought to be pretty good too. Details below... |
